Who is the course for?
The course is for anyone working in KS 1 and 2 who needs to discover how iPads support coding in the class and how coding can support key areas of the curriculum.
- Develop confidence and ideas for using iPads effectively to teach coding, and understand the recommendations of the National Curriculum.
- Develop an awareness of how a few free apps can support teachers and students needs.
- Discover the latest features of these cool apps and how to program Sphero’s, including the latest Sphero Mini.
- Find and use resources to sustain the teaching and exploring of coding in class.
Aims
To give teachers time to develop confidence, through a series of hands on activities, using the iPad to explore coding principles with a selection of free apps. Making coding accessible to all.

The iPad and relevant apps are developing quickly and becoming more useful to teachers and students. I will help you navigate this new world of apps and workflows. We will use the new coding app from Apple, Swift Playgrounds, along with several other key apps.
Programme for the day.
1- What is algorithm?
2- Making an algorithm and supporting literacy with algorithms.
3- Using Loops
4- If, then ,else statements.
5- Getting started with apps.
6- Decomposition and Abstraction
7- Apps and more apps.
8- From working with blocks to text coding.
9- Programming robots and Spheros
The cost of the day long course is £160.00 pp or £250.00 + vat for two teachers from the same school. The app list will be forwarded on receipt of your booking form. iPads can be provided as well as lunch. We always invoice your school after you have attended the course. Prevent freud, by never paying for a teacher training course before its’ taken place.
The course will be led by Oscar Stringer an Apple Education Trainer, who has been working with Apple technologies in schools for over twenty years. Oscar works part-time, as a facilitator at the Apple iOS Academy in Naples. Running a series of workshops on collaboration, creativity and communication.
The training will take place at the National Gallery, London on 1st February 2018 9.45am – 3.30pm The course is for all teachers and support staff in KS1 and KS2.
